Song Dynasty Porcelain

The Song dynasty (960–1279) is often called the classic age of Chinese ceramics. Its potters favoured restrained forms and single-colour glazes: the green celadons of Longquan and Yaozhou, the white wares of Ding and the pale, blue-tinged qingbai of Jingdezhen. The Song dynasty page gives the history of the period.

About Song Dynasty Porcelain

Collectors look for the colour and depth of the glaze, the balance of the form, and the way the body shows at the foot where the glaze stops. Song wares almost never carry reign marks, so they are dated by form, body and glaze. Crackle, wear and burial staining are common on pieces of this age, and our photographs show them; extra photographs are available on request. Our guide to Song dynasty ceramics covers the main wares, and Longquan celadon has a guide of its own.

This is a small, focused collection: celadon-glazed vases, a jar and a plate, and a qingbai ewer, most of them attributed to the Song dynasty. Pieces we have sold remain on the page, marked as sold, for reference.

Each price is given on request. Send the Request price form from the piece and we reply by email with the price and further photographs if you wish. We accept bank transfer, card or cryptocurrency, every shipment is fully insured, express and tracked, and all sales are final.
