A large celadon plate with a barbed, foliate rim and a raised edge. The sides are fluted inside and out, the ribs radiating from a plain circular centre, where a single flower is carved in low relief. There is no painted decoration. The glaze is a pale sea green, deepening where it pools in the flutes, with an overall crackle.
Fine ribbing covers the outside wall. The base shows a glazed centre ringed by an unglazed band, then a glazed band inside an unglazed foot ring, the bare body fired to an orange-brown. There is no mark. Our page on Song dynasty ceramics covers the wares of the period.
