Gently hand-painted by ancient artisans, this antique Chinese porcelain charger plate is now a piece of art. Soft traces of the formerly used cobalt oxide describe stylish rhomboid patterns that run along the edges of the piece. An elegant cavetto frames the beautifully detailed traditional Chinese flowers that majestically border the central medallion like a crown. Beautifully contoured over a richly detailed roaring sea rises a neat cloud that artistically contrasts with the ferocious waves below. The nucleus is conquered by an undulating and exquisitely detailed three-clawed dragon; symbol of imperial authority and luxury. This charger plate brings an air of the distant Yuan dynasty, and is the embodiment of a period of boiling Chinese arts that marked a turning point in Asian culture and art.
