Early Yuan dynasty Antique Porcelain Vase Qilin with incised design.
This richly detailed Yuan Dynasty vase features a beautiful combination of shades of cobalt oxide blue with delicate carved designs. A small foot gives way to a slender lower medallion that marks the point where the body begins to grow into wide majestic rims.
The piece has two central figures on each side. They are both vividly painted Qlin —Chinese mythological beings with a mixture of lion, deer, and fish, which are considered a symbol of prosperity and peace—. The creature has been majestically depicted with a head raised toward the horizon and a fabulous scaled body extended as it runs; surrounded by a refreshing floral panorama of flowers, curled stems with leaves, ferns, and gourds; each figure sumptuously framed by an elegant flawless cartouche.
The white spaces between the illustrations possess an exquisite chiseled design of beautiful, shimmering floral pattern with meandering leaves and stems.
