## Description

A [blue and white](https://realrareantiques.com/chinese-blue-and-white-porcelain/) porcelain jar of globular form with a short upright neck. The neck carries a band of interlinked loops. The body is painted with lions striding among large peony blossoms and pointed leaves on curling stems; the lions' bodies are washed in deep blue, while their curly manes are drawn in a paler wash. Round the foot runs a band of upright panels, each enclosing a cluster of flowers. The blue is strong and dark, pooling in the leaves and the lions' bodies.

The base is glazed, with a pronounced crackle, inside an unglazed foot ring with a brownish tone. More on the period is on our [Ming dynasty](https://realrareantiques.com/ming-dynasty/) page.
